What Is Happening to Mumia Abu-Jamal?
The Frame-Up That Would Not Fade
Mumia Abu-Jamal is not only a journalist and political activist; he is also one of the most enduring prison writers in America. Britannica describes him as a Philadelphia-born journalist and former Black Panther who continued publishing books and commentary from prison, while recent reporting still identifies him as a prolific writer and a major public voice from incarceration.
The record that supports the Freedom From Frame-Up Foundation’s position is serious and specific. In Rachel Wolkenstein’s sworn affidavit, she states that she resigned from Mumia’s defense team because lead counsel refused to present exculpatory evidence, including Arnold Beverly’s confession that he shot Officer Daniel Faulkner and that Mumia “had nothing to do with the shooting.”
Wolkenstein also states that William Cook signed a sworn statement saying Mumia did not shoot Faulkner, that Kenneth Freeman was in the car, and that Freeman later said he was part of a plan to kill Faulkner. Her affidavit further says Freeman’s death in May 1985, after the MOVE bombing, was suspicious.
That is why the case still resonates. Supporters do not just point to one claim; they point to an entire record of disputed testimony, alleged suppression, and a defense affidavit saying the strongest exculpatory material was never fully heard in open court. Wolkenstein writes that the evidence of innocence and due process violations was “deliberately suppressed” and that Beverly’s confession was independently corroborated by the record.
Why This Matters Now
Freedom From Frame-Up Foundation, Inc. exists to keep this record visible and to stand with innocent and framed people whose cases were buried by power. The movement is about more than one man. It is about the public refusing to accept manufactured guilt as justice.
Official Affidavit Hub
The Partisan Defense Committee’s official “Mumia Is Innocent! Anatomy of a Frame-Up” page links the core affidavit and declaration record, including Rachel Wolkenstein, Arnold R. Beverly, Mumia Abu-Jamal, William Cook, Donald Hersing, Linn Washington, Terri Maurer-Carter, Yvette Williams, and Kenneth Pate.
Why Supporters Should Join
Because this case is not only about the past. It is about what happens when evidence is ignored, witnesses are silenced, and a system protects itself instead of the truth. It is also about a prisoner who kept writing, kept speaking, and kept building a public record from inside prison walls.
A Record the Public Cannot Ignore
The supporting affidavits are direct and serious. In his June 8, 1999 affidavit, Arnold Beverly states that he was present when Officer Daniel Faulkner was shot, that Mumia Abu-Jamal did not shoot him, and that Beverly himself was hired to kill Faulkner. Beverly further states that corrupt police and mob-linked payoffs were part of the background, and that police were present on the scene while the shooting occurred.
William Cook’s declaration is equally important. Cook states that he was at the scene in his Volkswagen with Kenneth Freeman as a passenger, that Freeman ran from the scene after the shooting, that Mumia did not shoot Officer Faulkner, and that Freeman later told him there had been a plan to kill Faulkner and that Freeman had participated.
Rachel Wolkenstein’s affidavit ties those statements together. She says Beverly’s confession was supported by witness accounts, physical evidence, and ongoing FBI corruption investigations in Center City. She also states that Cook later identified Kenneth Freeman as the passenger, confirmed Mumia did not shoot Faulkner, and signed a sworn statement exonerating him.
The affidavit record also raises hard questions about witness handling, official conduct, and scene integrity. Wolkenstein states that Inspector Alfonzo Giordano, already convicted on federal corruption charges, was central to the prosecution’s early “confession” theory; that the crime scene was not properly secured; and that officers tied to corruption rackets were present in the same era. She also describes missing or untested ballistic evidence, a missing bullet fragment, and no located x-rays of Faulkner’s body.
The record is also consistent that Mumia always maintained his innocence, and Wolkenstein states that the defense was built around proving he was “an innocent man” who was denied a full and fair presentation of exculpatory evidence. She says the refusal to present Beverly, Cook, and Singletary amounted to suppression of innocence evidence and abandonment of the client. However, there are two names keep surfacing in that deeper story. First, Arnold Beverly, whose 1999 affidavit claimed he, not Abu-Jamal, shot Officer Daniel Faulkner; supporters treat that confession as powerful evidence. Second, Kenneth Freeman, whom the defense later identified as a possible fourth man at the scene, been identified twice in line-up as being one of the shooters involved in P.O. Faulkner death; advocates say his Freeman’s death on May 13, 1985—found bound, gagged, handcuffed, naked, and with a syringe in his arm—was not a simple “natural Causes” as was later reported and definitely deserves far more scrutiny than it received.
Why the Legal Record Still Matters
The public legal anchors are straightforward: Brady v. Maryland requires disclosure of material favorable evidence; Napue v. Illinois bars knowing use of false testimony; Giglio v. United States covers undisclosed witness promises and credibility issues; and Batson v. Kentucky forbids racial discrimination in jury selection. Those are the core due-process and equal-protection principles that make suppressed evidence, false testimony, and racial exclusion constitutionally serious. (See Affidavits link; Main affidavit hub:

To get a more clear picture of the draconian cover-up of the manufacturing of guilt Frame-Up to Mumia Abu Jamal an Innocent man. This was done deliberately by Philly corrupted cops, corrupted officials, corrupted DA’s continuing the corruption incorporating into the judicial system all knowingly and systemically covering up the December 9th, 1981 murder of Philly P.O. Faulkner.
Why Supporters Continue to Organize
Freedom From Frame-Up Foundation, Inc. and the Mumia Freedom Tour are keeping this record visible because the case is bigger than one conviction. It is about manufactured guilt, state power, political repression, and the right of the public to see the whole record. It is also about the right of innocent and framed people everywhere to be heard before the system buries the truth.
That is why Freedom From Frame-Up Foundation, Inc. and the Mumia Freedom Tour matter. This is not only about one case. It is about every innocent person buried under manufactured guilt, every family searching for truth, and every supporter who refuses to let corruption write the final chapter.

What is Happening to Mumia?
The Frame-Up Exposed
Have you ever wondered how the system can silence a voice that refuses to obey? Who profits when the truth is buried? Why has Mumia Abu-Jamal, journalist, Black Panther, and activist, been behind bars for decades despite declaring his innocence from day one?
Mumia’s story is not just about one man—it’s about a political frame-up designed to manufacture guilt. From his adolescent years as a Black Panther Deputy Minister of Information to his tenure as President of the National Black Journalists Association and a respected radio news broadcaster, Mumia has always been a voice for the voiceless. Yet, on December 9, 1981, he was wrongfully convicted in a politically charged trial that ignored critical evidence.
Do you know about Arnold Beverly’s confession, never heard live in court? Arnold Beverly, (his live confession in his own words that you can listen to above on our site) also Beverly 1999 affidavit claimed he, NOT ABU-JAMAL shot Officer Daniel Faulkner. Or, Kenneth Freeman was identified in a police lineup at least twice as one of the persons fleeing the scene and involvement in P.O. Faulkner’s murder on December 9th, 1981, meaning the police had Freeman in custody, and let him go to frame-up Mumia Abu Jamal for Capital Murder to PA death-row for a crime that Mumia did not do . Also, you should question the mysterious death of Kenneth Freeman on May 13, 1985, found naked, handcuffed, bound, gagged and injected, outside in an abandoned lot just blocks from the MOVE bombing site? These events expose the deep corruption of Philadelphia officials and police who orchestrated a system to frame an innocent man.
Even after 30 years on death row, four signed death warrants, and life-threatening health struggles—including hepatitis C from contaminated transfusions, diabetic shock, triple bypass heart surgery, and retinopathy that risks blindness—Mumia’s voice remains unbroken. His prolific writings, over 14 books, thousands of commentaries, and speeches in multiple languages continue to educate the world about systemic injustice.
The Freedom From Frame-Up Foundation, Inc. 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, founders of the Mumia Freedom Tour, are dedicated to exposing these injustices and advocating for Mumia and all innocent and framed people and political prisoners. From Philly to North Carolina, New York, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Florida, California, Atlanta, Cuba, Indianapolis, and beyond, supporters are building a movement of truth, accountability, and freedom.
